I Am

Recitation of the Psalm “I Am” at Life of Faith Church, Birmingham, AL USA

When I met Him the first time,
I heard Him say, “I Am who I Am”
I thought to myself, “What a strange name!”
Little did I know about His fame

I was seeking an intelligent explanation,
Not knowing I would receive a life time of revelation
So hear me oh heavens and hear me all the earth,
As I declare the glory of my God and His name’s worth.

My life started changing for better, since I met this stranger
I was in Egypt, He promised me Canaan
I was in bondage, He offered me freedom

“My God, My God!” I cried out, “my burdens are heavy and my chains are strong”
“Come unto me,” He said, “I’ll give you rest, your mourning will I turn into a dancing song”
Enemies prowled behind me,
He said, “I Am your shield and defense, Fear not for I Am your Recompense”
Oceans roared before me
He Said, “I Am your ocean splitter, I Am your way maker,
“I Am the water walker, I Am the storm calmer”

My understanding now enlightened
I began to see the words, “I Am who I Am”
“I Am who you need in your time of need”

To the lost, He says, “I Am your Good Shepherd”
To the sick, He says, “I Am your Healing Oil”
To the poor, he says, “I Am your Precious Pearl”

To the bound, He says, “I Am your Chain Breaker”
To the afflicted, He says, “I Am your Mighty Deliverer”
To the helpless, He says, “I Am your Savior”

Mighty are His works, indescribable
Great are His mercies, inexhaustible
Joy in His presence, uncontainable
Peace in His word, unexplainable

He is the “Great I Am”
His name is Jesus and He loves me.
“Jesus loves me, this I know!!!”

I could sing of His love for ever,
But the Psalmist said it best –

“Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”
