Grace – Even For Riches!

How many times have we heard religion and culture glorify poverty. People say things like “It must be God’s will for me to live in poverty” or “another day another dollar”. Or you ask some one how they are doing and they say, “just trying to make ends meet”. Even some of our prayers are poor too. “God just help me pay this bill and nothing more”, “God just help me find a job”. Don’t get me wrong, we should take everything that concerns us to the Lord in prayer but words like these show how poverty and complacence have crept into our culture and even our subconscious. Dear friend let me say something radically different. If you have accepted the Lord Jesus as your savior there is no excuse for you to be poor. I know that might make some people mad. But that’s the truth. Bible says in 2 Corinthians 8:9

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.

2 Corinthians 8:9 NKJV Bible

That means one of the reasons Jesus died on the cross was for us to become rich. It is not God’s will for us to struggle in finances neither is it his pleasure to teach us something through poverty. But you might ask, “how come so many Christians are poor?” That is a very good question. Let’s see how the Bible answers this question. The Word of God says in Hosea 4:6,

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.

Hosea 4:6 NKJV Bible

What knowledge is this which when attained keeps us from destruction? Compare this with the words of Jesus in John 8:32,

And you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.

John 8:32 NKJV Bible

What is the truth that Jesus is talking about that when we know it we are made free? Let’s just read from the previous verse.

Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

John 8:31-32 NKJV Bible

Jesus said that if we abide in His Word we will be His disciples and we will know the truth. God’s word contains an answer for every situation of our lives including finances. To ‘abide’ means to continue, to rest, to stay and to remain. When we let God’s word take a dominant place in our thoughts we abide in His Word. The Bible is filled with faith pictures. Our thinking must be dominated by the word of God. So when we are faced with life’s challenges we respond in faith rather than in fear. You may be facing a condition in your body for which there is no cure medically. All the experts and their statistics may tell you that you must learn to live with it. They may tell you how to cope with it. They may mean well, but what they present is not the truth. God’s word is the truth and He says in Exodus 15:26

I am the Lord who heals you.

Exodus 15:26 NKJV Bible

Remember Jesus’ words in John 8:32 “And you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.” Fact is your body may be in pain. But my friend, remember facts are subject to change but the truth will never change. Bible declares in 1 Peter 2:24 (brackets mine) ,

“…by whose (Jesus’) stripes you were healed.

1 Peter 2:24 NKJV Bible (Brackets added for context)

Now that’s truth. When you focus on the truth instead of the facts, faith goes to work. Your facts will change to align themselves with the truth. This is not some magic or positive thinking or make believe. But when God speaks everything is subject to change, including your facts. When you focus on what God spoke about you and your situation, things will change.

When you focus on the truth instead of the facts, faith goes to work. Your facts will change to align themselves with the truth.

Now the same principle works in finances too. See what God has to say about your finances. Bible is filled with truths and promises about our finances. Our God is a God of abundance and He wants His children to enjoy an abundant life. If you are in a financial need and that seems to be the fact of your life, here’s few verses which paint a picture of the truth. Read these words and see yourself in the light of the truth. Speak these words over your life now.

  • And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19
    • Meditation: God will meet all my needs, not according to the riches of this world, not according to my pay check, not according to my bank balance but according to His riches. And God is Rich. He owns the universe. I access God’s riches by putting my faith in His Son Jesus Christ.
  • For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich. 2 Corinthians 8:9
    • Meditation: According to 2 Corinthians 8:9, when Jesus died on the cross for me, He was stripped of all His riches and became poor so that I can become rich. He took the punishment for my mistakes and sins including the punishment for my financial mistakes, so when I put my trust in Him, I receive His wealth and riches. All my bills are paid for and all my debts are paid in the sight of God.
  • And He (Jesus) said to them (Disciples), “When I sent you without money bag, knapsack, and sandals, did you lack anything?” So they said, “Nothing.”
    • Meditation: When I give my life to Jesus and I follow Him, I will lack nothing. Even if I don’t have any possessions to begin with, God will make a way to meet all my needs and there is now no lack for me but abundance.

My friend, these are but a few among the hundreds and hundreds of promises of God for his children in the area of finances. I encourage you to explore the Word of God – The Bible and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal these promises and God is faithful to answer. Your life will never be the same again as you experience His Grace even in the area of Finances.
